If they condensed it into smaller chunks with tighter plots and less fillers then the fanbase wouldn't be so bad.
On the other hand at this point the anime's rep is so tarnished that I doubt we'll ever move past the current circlejerk, there was a glimpse of hope with XY getting more people into the anime but almost all of them left after Ash lost the League.
