Just some ideas for the forest. When you get to the building at the start of the forest someone mentions a storm coming through recently. "Hurricane Christopher" comes to mind. They then tell you that a few logs have fallen across the main path, and they tell you to be careful. Once you beat the next gym leader, the logs have been removed and you can now walk quickly through the forest without having to go through long grass.
Red line is the main path that you can take when you first get to the forest. (light green is walkable, i.e. normal grass and long grass)
Purple line is for when you gain access to rock smash. Lets you pick up a few items as well as some higher level trainers.
Blue line is for when you get surf/waterfall and leads to a big tree event.
