It has nothing to do with the popularity between the two, it's just as simple as Generation 7 having a representative in the game being incredibly unnecessary. Also gotta love the generic "you just want to smash Gardevoir, muh waifumon" argument that totally hasn't been used thousands of times already despite being a complete assumption in this particular argument. At least it isn't nu-gen trash that isn't constantly shilled for the sake of marketing but I digress. I could honestly care less if they included another Pokemon newcomer when they've already done enough by bringing back Mewtwo, Pichu, and Red. See you when your overdesigned, bad excuse for a starter isn't in the game though :^).
