>>52518334You're underestimating Feraligatr. Typhlosion is good, but Gatr is just on a different level
>Water type is frankly busted. It's only weak to grass and electric, but Grass was a shit offensive type back then (The best move after Solarbeam was Giga Drain, a late game move with only 60BP and an embarrassing 5 PP). >As a Water type it gets Surf in Ecruteak (with an insane 95 BP, only remotely balanced by Feraligatr having Slightly lower Special Attack than Quilava (more on this later)) >Also as a water type it gets Ice Coverage, a very good offensive type which freezes Lance to death >It gets Ice Punch as Totodile. Typhlosion has to be in its final stage to get Thunder Punch. >Evolves very early at level 30 compared to Typhlosion's 36 Lets talk about about Gatr's "Flaw's"
>Water types are common so if you didn't pick Gatr you could get something to similar (like the free Gyarados, but if you have Feraligatr you can just keep using that) >Physical water type before the Phys/Spec Split, which isn't much of a problem in Gen 2 since you can max out all your stats, and because natures don't exist non of your stats get lowered, 79 SpA isn't really that low when you get DV's added to it and you don't have to to kneecap your lower offensive stat ) >You reach Ccroconaw later (level 18 vs 14 for Quilava) >You can get Charcoal for the Cynda line far sooner than Mystic water for for the Toto line) If Typhlosion is A, then Feraligatr is S+, Typhlosion has distinct advantage and is amazing but there is no comparison.
