Probably it's more the editors than the authors, a lot of books read like they need some heavy editing that's not just spell-checking. Maybe I've just gone so neck-deep in studying immersive writing that it's become my second nature to scrutinise every little detail, whether it's my writing or other people's, and for this reason what resonates with others doesn't resonate with me...
