>>43489451I'm well aware of her Yama-uba origins. I'm just saying from a design influence I 100% believe they intentionally took gollywags as an influence for her visual appearance. I used to be an adamant Ganguro supporter for the visual part of her design, but after reading up on the history of Little Black Sambo and Japan I really think it was an intentional visual connection.
Like I said I don't think it's malicious, that style was decently popular in Japan at the time and still continues to this day. I'm not saying it was intended to be racist, and it doesn't detract from her mythological origins, it was just a humorous visual way of depicting an ugly old demon lady with dark skin.
We'll never actually get a honest answer out of the original designer though so it's all speculation.
