Why does it matter? There's obvious comparisons we can make to apes and monkeys, only so much you can do with sea life or birds or quadrupeds, bipeds will inevitably look humanoid.
Plus there's the obvious desire and advantage for the Pokemon Company to have things they can make into mascot suits for events and the like.
Why's it such a big deal? It seems like just a lot of baby rage over something minor when there was a fuck ton of humanoids since gen 1 anyway.
