It adds a lot of neat features into crystal like letting you buy a house and having pokemon follow you as you walk around and actually giving each pokemon unique overworld sprites all while keeping the rom under 2MB and keeping it compatible with both the original gameboy hardware AND pokemon stadium 2. There are also new locations like cherrygrove bay and new cinnabar island and it restores old locations misssing from pokemon crystal like viridian forest.
Also, you can catch all the pokemon (even starters) in the wild, and get trade evolutions in game by trading to a kid at the celedon department store. but you can also use crystal version gameshark codes to just encounter the pokemon you want (which is how I got my team in that picture cause I just wanted to hit the ground running without having to grind.)
Some people dont like the devs "self inserting" themselves into the game as the elite four and champion, but I dont really care because I never liked Lance and im probably going to try and beat all 16 gyms before fighting the league anyways.
