Yokai Watch proved that it is still possible for something other than Pokémon to be more popular in Japan, while America defends Pokémon from "clones" to insane levels. It's probably why they bribe Bandai to make sure America doesn't get good Digimon shit. It's not that Digimon is good but it's the greatest threat to their brand, which is their greatest asset. Probably why they make sure Digimon never crosses over with Pokémon in any way too.
