if we go the traditional rout, maybe the player goes to chase after the 'unnamed poke-bandit'. When the player gets to the second town a pokemon ranger intercepts you saying there have been reports of a robber in the area and you fit the description (stranger wearing a hat and poncho) the two of you return to Mangrove's lab to sort things out.
