I write the story to fic the favorite mon I have in question. My fics tend to be Pokecentric, either of the PMD variety or taking place from a Pokemon's viewpoint. Hence, I have little issue personally with selecting my favorites to tell stories from. The issue then becomes writing a meaningful story with those mons in mind, seeing as some of my favorites are fairly niche.
I have yet to see a story(ies) that feature either a beedrill or ariados as a primary character, which isn't surprising seeing as they are both the evolved forms of bug type fodder mon that you catch and discard as soon as something better comes along. I know the former has some form of mega evolution, but I never liked the concept to begin with, thus leading me to diverge from that concept/mechanic and investigate branches into alternative evolutionary/breed concepts for the mon.
For instance, to expand upon the beedrill family and to sate my own autistic need for want of giving it a pair of hands *and* keep it a bit truer to taking inspiration from its insect counterpart, I have elected to create "variants" for the family. Not in the canon regional variants, but rather through the creation of "classes" of an imagined hive of beedrill. Granted, many of these are minor on the surface of it, but it sates my needs.
