What Renamon really meant is that digimon genders are purely aesthetic and not determined by biology since they can digivolve into femenine or masculine forms. Gender neutral digimon like Renamon, for example, can choose to identify as either gender. Part of her character development is her choosing to identify as a female (in a later series we see a Renamon that chooses to be a male instead).
