>>51636137As others have said, there was a drastic increase in variety from gen 2 to 3. Stuff like the ashy route, the desert route, jagged pass, the underwater stuff etc, there’s just a far greater diversity of environments. That, combined with the maps in general being WAY larger, makes the whole region feel like a great expanse of wilderness to explore, which really plays up the adventurous feel of the games when you’re playing. The more exotic Pokémon designs + the new berry system help cement this as well.
Hoenn is definitely my favourite region and this is why, the whole thing feels so fresh and exciting.
