No really, this is good in every other competitive video game scene I've ever witnessed. Why should Pokemon's metagame be limited, predictable, and samey?
Spectators who view the metagame without active participation almost universally prefer and enjoy something that is more varied, offering the possibility that any game could be unique and different from the others for more reasons than just the skill level of the participants (or luck, in Pokemon)
It also keeps the metagamers on their toes which improves their own abilities and supports the continuation of the metagame.
Variation is healthy
Stagnation is death
