So this teacher will teach you different methods of preparation and conservation (Canned, Brine, Frozen, Dehydrated, Salted, Smoked, Fermented, Dried) as well as how to manage and prepare your ingredients, in this way it would make sense why you need their authorization first to go to such a dangerous place.
The same for the other teachers, although it is difficult for me to imagine how the language and art teacher would provide tools for survival.
