I do see a lot of undue hatred flung their way. And I instinctually as a man, like to protect the weak and downtrodden. Morally I make no excuses for their behavior. It may be a corruption of nature or some such thing, but it is indeed their own choice to make. To make manifest ones own destiny and desires is true freedom. And it is an American value.
