I really, really hate Go Battle League. I only play it out of necessity.
How the rewards work is biased towards being able to win consistently in a set, and throwing matches has the effect of reducing your ranking, which pairs you up against opponents you're more likely to beat.
So this results in encouraging players to throw matches once they can no longer get the rewards they desire, because that set has become worthless to them.
So they introduce a "play until you win" mechanic if you happen to lose all five matches in a set.
You get up to an additional 10 matches if you keep losing.
This results in shit where a player throws 10 matches in a row so they can reduce their rank even further, whilst denying their opponent a satisfying match, improving their rank without them earning it.
It's fucking hilarious that at rank 1, you can deliberately lose 15 matches in a set and still climb to rank 2.
Fuck Go Battle League. Any system that encourages people to strategically lose to maximise rewards is a deeply flawed one.
