>>53617986If I squint my eyes really hard and look past the EXP share, Megas, free legendary, loading zones, constant warping around the map for no reason, generally increased amount of interruptions, gutted contests, removed features, less appealing graphics (it has its moments though), and delta episode?
Then, yea, I can appreciate that these games manage to carry over a lot what made the originals so great, like the region design, story, Pokédex, Pokémon distribution, etc, while also iterating on a LOT of it in honestly great ways.
The Pokenav + is positively exquisite, literally astoundingly convenient and constantly useful in several ways, the area nav is great for finding trainer rematches (now spread out throughout the game instead post Norman only, awesome) and just generally keeping track of everything from berries to secret bases to pokedex completion, and the dex nav makes catching Pokémon a way more involved affair while also giving you a way to find rare Pokémon, Pokémon with better moves, Pokémon with higher levels, shiny Pokémon, and much more. Secret bases were genuinely so much more fun with global wifi interactivity, and the games being 3D also meshed pretty well with the idea. The islands in the post game were an amazing replacement for mirage island. They added a tasteful amount of trainers along the routes and even some under water which is cool. They even gave the grunts a selection of 4 Pokémon instead of 3. Plus, these games also have stuff like the split, better movesets, the fairy type, pokemon ami, and other gen 4-6 features that I don’t consider OBJECTIVE improvements but definitely give me reasons to play these games over the originals sometimes.
Overall, I’m very ambivalent towards these games, I hate so much about them but I must admit, they have so much going for them that I simply can’t not play them every now and then.
