Of course she does. Anime!Serena, the version that gives the character any form of notoriety, wasn't a character, but a prop. She existed solely to orbit Ash's disinterested dick, and that held true for roughly a third to half of the XY series. By that point, they realized how flat her character was, and so scrambled to give her something else...by having her focus on contests as a blatant retread of Dawn, who was in turn a retread of May. To add insult to injury, all of her performances were ultimately just spinning, but characters in the anime made it a point to claim she was talented regardless. Her famous "kiss" accomplished absolutely nothing, and was never brought up again; not even when the character returned in Journeys.

Serena is, in essence, a master class in how not to write a character.

You see, the problem with Serena - the absolute biggest, most damning issue - is that they didn't write a character, but a satellite orbiting a boy that doesn't care. Her entire backstory is like something out of terrible fanfiction, where the author rewrites a canon character's backstory to insert their special OC and build importance artificially. There was exactly one person on the writing team lobbying for this painfully forced pairing, and it shows. Serena is a failure on every conceivable level, at least from a writing standpoint, and the very idea that this completely one-sided attraction would ever see the conclusion you desire, is laughable. The pairing was doomed from its inception; it was not going to happen, and you all need to move on.

However, not only did this change next to nothing, but every one of her performances is comprised mostly of her and her Pokemon twirling. I would go so far as to compare her to fanfiction, specifically written by a teenaged girl; one who changes the canon lead's backstory to try and pair him up with her self-insert, but is so incompetent at writing that it instead comes across as a psychotic stalker. Anime Serena was never a good character, and never will be.

The writers did not write a character; they wrote a satellite orbiting the dick of a boy that doesn't care. Nothing of her "plot" will ever amount to anything; the off-screen kiss at the end of the season will never be revisited, nor will they become an item. Exactly one person on the staff was lobbying for this pairing, and they are no longer in control. Serena may as well not exist.

At the end of the day, OP, Serena existed solely to orbit Ash's disinterested dick. She retconned the main character's past to force a half-baked, completely one-sided love subplot akin to a fanfiction original character. She had no personality. She had no character development or growth. She was a retread of May and Dawn. Her "dream" was clearly thought up at the last minute to try and give her some semblance of depth (it didn't work - see previous point.) Her performances were as uninspired as she was and consisted solely of spinning and twirling. She could have been removed from the XY series, and next to nothing would be different.

She will never be brought up again. Nothing that happened with her will be brought up again. Nothing she did will ever be relevant. She is a complete failure by every possible metric.

The anime moved on; I advise you to do the same.
