>>42712741Hey anon, thank you so much! I began posting on the gamedev threads on /v/ and I got roasted and roasted. At first it was harsh but then you realize how kind criticism can be. I've received plenty of "my god your art makes me want to kill myself", so I worked hard on my art and sought out the help of those that are actually artists (I don't see myself as one). Eventually comments became "the overworld art makes me want to kill myself", which told me, ok the battle screens are looking alright, but the overworld art is lagging behind. So I could disregard this sort of thing as trolls, OR, I could grow up, find those making lovely overworld art and ask for some of their advice, or even, if money allowed, direct help. Thanks so much for your kind words.
I've been here since the gen 5 release. I've loved participating in the speculation, the jokes, the nostalgia, I feel at home here, so I absolutely want to make vp happy. You can't always please people but as long as I'm really trying, and not just convincing myself I did enough but really, really pushing myself to do best by you guys, then I can be happy.
Ultimately I am a western dude. While mostly compared to eastern, anime-based media I am always going to be the kid that grew up on western cartoons, playing with western toys, so I think that approach maybe is bubbling to the surface a bit. You seem to be a bit of an expert in this area - what where those things called that were like an easy bake oven but you cooked rubber monsters in little metal trays? I was absolutely OBSESSED with that as a kid. I also loved games like Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters and loved that aesthetic so a lot of 80s/90s monsters/cartoons really shaped what I thought was cool!
