They are black dots that keep appearing and disappearing as you move. They are few, but it's way too annoying for me, as I grew up playing Gen 1, 2, and 3, which ran flawlessly on emulators.
I would definitely play on a physical copy if I had a DS and the game, but I won't play a Nuzlocke of all things in such a shabby emulation.
