Yeah kind of. They're based more on the leotard itself. Hence why they have the odd leg joints, that's how the leotard looks when contrasting wit the pantyhose. You could argue the forward lean and teardrop shape is because of the leotard too, not that we see much of the lean now we're in 3d. Their eyes are based of hotot rabbits though. Some also say they are based of rabbit plush toys hence the joint legs too.
Either way I just think they're really neat
