XY were definitely unfinished games, but made up for it in other ways like the online and QoL changes
unlike SwShThey're looked back at as bad games, but were pretty okay first titles that needed an enhanced version to tie up all the loose plot threads, develop the characters that weren't Korrina.
I recently looked at all my older games' saves and was honestly surprised by seeing X being my second most played pokemon game after Diamond with over 500 hours. Then I remembered this was the generation that gave us all those good changes to breeding, Super Training, the PSS and other online features, as well as having a lot of cool new pokemon. Heliolisk is still one of my favorites and I bred and trained three different ones. Had we gotten XY2 or Z with a proper postgame, that would probably have been my most played game.
