>>45535727>worse music>worse spritessubjective, personally Y > FR/LG > R/G as far as sprites go for me with gen 1 games, HG/SS I would say have sprites about on par quality-wise with Crystal although I agree that I prefer the gen 2 chiptune vs gen 4 soundfont immensely
>worse mechanicsNot really? With Gen 4 mechanics there's a lot less absolute shitmons even in singleplayer, abilities also give some mons a bit more spice
>more casualisationI don't think casualisation was really apparent in the first 4 gens, it's only in Gen V that you start seeing situations where you get heals throughout routes for example, personally I don't really remember having more difficulty in GSC than I did in HG/SS outside of more limited movesets SPEAKING OF WHICH that goes both ways. a lot of Gen I/II trainers had some absolutely laughable mon setups. Gen III/IV weren't /that/ much more challenging but you definitely saw a lot more variation that meant difficulty outside of sheer stat superiority which could be overcome with mindless grinding.
>railroadingthe most I remember is not being able to get into Saffron quite as quickly but I'm pretty sure you can still battle the same amount of gym leaders in any order in FR/LG vs R/G. I don't remember any significant changes in HG/SS either, but it's been a while
I don't think there was any big changes of railroading and casualisation implemented into a remake until OR/AS
