I agree Mugendaina is an infinitely (pun absolutely intended) better name than Eternatus but the pokedex having entries in different languages is canon, meaning every localized name is actually a canon name people use in different parts of the Pokemon World (Red's giant lizard is called "Lizardon" because Japan, Calem's is called "Dracaufeu" because France, Leon's is called "Charizard" because UK, etc).
What's the correct name, then? He's canonically called "Eternatus" by galarians, unovans and alolans but "Mugendaina" for kantonians, johtonians, hoennians and sinnohnians (and Éthernatos by kalosians).
