Before moving on to the obvious Petalburg route, you first have to go north through a bunch of tall grass and fight May/Brendan. It's a fair little challenge. I remember getting excited over catching a seemingly rare Wingull up there. You also get a glimpse of the body of water to the right which makes you wonder how big the world is.
