I have a theory that might be old but I'm kinda slow.
Considering:
>the anime is simply called "Pokémon" this time
>the anime has for the first time a co-protagonist that seems to be of equal importance than Ash
>Go has a Pokédex, but Ash does not (in fact, the Rotomdex that Ash left in Alola is one of the if not the most complete Pokédex in existence, with data about never-before seen Pokémon and areas)
>Ash is now a Champion in Alola, the Battle Frontier and the Orange Islands
>Go has an unachievable goal and is just starting
>Go has a similar personality to Ash
>they're revisiting old regions
I believe that in this series Ash will "pass the torch" to Go. In other words, Go will be the new protagonist for the anime from now on and this time might be when Ash finally is recognized as a Pokémon Master.
