I replayed Leaf Green for the first time in a long time and I have

>Dragonite
>Charizard
>Gengar
>Golem
>Alakazam
They're all level 65~70 and I get my balls rocked by the 2nd round elite 4. I don't want to beat them by grinding. Is it my lack of fighting pokemon? I really thought I was being smart when I picked this team but it turns out I can only really rely on Gengar and Charizard, and Gengar was a piss poor choice for countering psychic types. I'm also supremely disappointed in Venusaur. It's fucked up. I thought I was just the smartest when I gave him Solar Beam, Frenzy Plant, Sunny Day, and kept leech seed for some sort of alternative move.
Help me, anons. I want to be good at picking my team and moves. It's pretty awful when level 55 Golbats are the bane to my fucking Venusaur.
I'm guessing I should have rolled with Machamp over fucking Golem.
