While, in all honesty, Ohsawot, Piplup, Mudkip and Torchic all look like they belong in the same game, the fact of the matter is that all of the gen 4 mons are clearly designed way more like a mascot thing than an animal. They got different colored limb ends. They got patterns on region transitions, like the light blue on piplup's face, the cloudwing on chimchar's belly.
Gen 3 was the last one.
Some-the-fuck-how Popplio is only 4th place in the least over-designed mons of gens 5-8, those above it being it Rowlet, Fennekin and Litten.
