Of course there are more important issues like the ones you mentioned, but thats not how the common folk functions. Those are not immediate problems that concern them. Getting fun games to play with are, however.
Of course its silly on some level, but when has humanity ever prioritized actual important issues? People always go for the simple stuff that affects them NOW, instead of in the far future. Climate change is the best example for this.
People like to come together and bond over the fact that they can shit on someone who, in their opinion, did something wrong or screwed them over. This is nothing new and wont change.
It just so happens that this time, it was Gamefreak/Nintendo/ThePokemonCompany.
It will die down eventually. I dont think people will still be talking about this topic as passionate one year from now, even if nothing changes.
