Honestly the game would have benefited from not having the giant ass crater in the centre. The left and right sides feeling disjoint means that 99% of players who don't go back to the school regularly (and there really isn't much reason to do so in the early game) will likely complete one side and then end up being overlevelled for the other. I don't know a single person who explored both sides naturally.
I get why there's no level scaling, though I really do think the open format would benefit from it. But then if you're not going to level scale, don't create a map that will inherently make most of your playerbase miss half of the intended content.
