Not a protagonist per say, but the thread inspired me to make a "final" team for Cheren that combines his BW1 and BW2 incarnations.
Feels like it could be a really decent in-game boss battle where the idea is to keep launching single use powerhouse attacks at you until he loses, but he's not going down without a fight. Demonstrates his original character super well with his short-sighteness. Also a big nuzlocke ender.
