Fearing death enough to make some compromising deal like this and riding it out for centuries under the sea instead of embracing the uncertainty of the impermanence of life. There's even another NPC in this game who touches on this too. I think he's easily the most defiled historical figure by this rhetoric; it goes against basically every principle he was reported to have had.
