I have an autistic headcanon that Riolu is the canon partner for Explorers. Since he's the only partner who hits Dialga with STAB and super effective damage, I like to imagine that the human distracts/debuffs Dialga with weak attacks while Riolu is busy charging up his shonen bs move and maybe getting doped with a Violent Seed. Then he'd hit the Giant Enemy Crab on its weak point for massive damage. It'd also work on a narrative level given how the partner lacks confidence at the start and shit
