Years ago I designed artwork for a hypothetical arcade version of Gen I, based on the old Nintendo cabinets. I ended up doing a set for each version, and I've always wanted to build at least one of them. It would feature the Gen I and Gen II games, plus Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon TCG, and Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, as well as popular hacks of Gen I and II games. But the idea is the centerpiece of the cabinet would be a custom hack specifically to replicate what an arcade version of Pokemon could have been like (obviously ignoring the impracticality of a long RPG on a commercial arcade machine), while also serving as my own ideal version of the game would be.
The basic stuff:
>Gen III-based
>Limited to original 151
>No Sevii Islands
>No breeding
>All Pokemon achievable without trades
Version exclusives are respected, and are released into the wild post-E4. Eevee, the other fossil, the other Hitmon, and the other two starters are also locked to post-game. Trade evolutions can be done through Bill's teleporter.
>Physical/Special Split and Fairy-type added
>Shitmons buffed through a mix of stat buffs, new abilities, exclusive held items, re-typings, etc.
The goal is just to make all of them fun to use in the storyline, without going into retarded "Hypno is Psychic/Dark" shit
>Mew storyline involving Mr. Fuji and the Cinnabar Lab
>Gym Leader rematches with buffed teams
The more ambitious stuff:
>Pokemon Stadium tie-in
A new post-game area built north of Celadon City. Site of the World Tournament, where the hardest battles in the game take place. Also has Move Tutors, expanded TM shop, training facilities, etc.
>Cinnabar Lab Cloning Facility
Post-game substitute for breeding. Scientist at the Cinnabar lab can clone Pokemon. Berries and Star Dust can be consumed to influence IVs and Shiny odds. Altogether a more streamlined way to "breed" perfect Pokemon. Also has a source for Rare Candies and Exp. Candies for expedited leveling (referencing the Rare Candy glitch)
