I say they make money relatively worthless and ruin players' sense of agency in keeping their Pokemon alive. They should be made less available or removed, with the game balanced around having money for items, which allows you to keep your Pokemon alive and obtain more money so there's a nice cycle of investment and return (this could be subsidised with the planting of quick-growing berries).
