>>51034129I won't be able to exactly repost what I said earlier in another thread way back when, but I'll paraphrase. If and when they introduce another type, which they probably will, it is not going to be something like Sound or Light or whatever. Most of the element/monster categories are covered so whatever the next type has to be needs to be something that opens up the door to new concepts and gameplay mechanics. Anything else that people suggest typically does not do that. We have sound as a property of moves and it would require retyping far too many Pokemon, more than fairy for sure, and just seems like more trouble than it's worth. Plus if you're going to argue for the sound type, outside of maybe fixing the type chart what else does it really do as far as Pokemon designs
or conventions? Steel, Dark and even Fairy opened the door to new types of Pokemon that we had not before they existed. Yes, some things got retyped, but looking at the Pokemon you've gotten since I think they make a lot more sense being the newer type than they would one of the classic 15. Even Fairy types I feel have started to strongly represent their own identity and it would be hard to conceptualize them as something like normal or psychic without changing what they are. Personally I think moving forward there's only really 3 options that they could use to bring a new type into the games:
>Reintroduce shadow type or similar concept, which works more as a gimmick to create Shadow / whatever versions of already existing Pokemon who follow different rules but are still "a new type" >An actual new type that is currently covered by none or very few currently existing Pokemon, which would open the door to new design concepts. My mind goes to stuff like Digital type or Saint type, types that would really not make sense for many of the Pokemon we have now but work for new ideas>Redoing the type chart from the ground up, which means altering them all drastically
