I enjoy the old games because I can blame the limation and jank on rapidly evolving technology in a niche hobby.
With the new games I can only blame greed, incompetence, and a team of people who actively hate their craft and wanted to move on over a decade ago but can't because it's the only thing they make that sells well.
I'm willing to accept some mediocrity if you made it out of care and innovation rather than obligation and necessity.
