Physical/Special moves being locked to typing sucks for in-game play. It makes Sneasel basically useless and not at all fun to use because it basically has to rely on Normal-type attacks. Same thing with Gyarados, it's not fun to rely on its shitter Sp.A just to use its stab moves.
Combine this with the fact that Gen 1-3 (especially 1 and 2) had really ASS level-up movesets and good TMs locked behind casino minigames or post-game content- it just makes a lot of mons feel so much weaker. Like, look at Xatu in Gen 2. Not learning an attacking Psychic move until level 35 and its fucking Future Sight. No Psychic until level 65.
