If there wasn't any means of catching the other pokemon, it would be uncharacteristically user unfriendly for a pokemon game. There are usually one or two uncatchables, like Mew or Celebi, but this many is insane. It's ludicrous to even think you could trade for that many in a reasonable amount of time.
