>>50714609/v/ is full of pretentious pseudo-intellectual teens and 20-somethings who believe themselves to be counter culture and in control of their own thoughts but are in fact easily manipulated. If your post seems like it's been posted before, it means it likely has by hundreds of others programmed just like you. These midwits are unable to disassociate their thoughts from the emotional parts of their brain and react with guaranteed vitriol when their beliefs are challenged. It's called belief perseverance and it's the reason discussion about politics and religion always turn into a shitshow.
Now I will fully admit /vp/ was worse than /v/ for a good amount of time, mostly in the early 2010s barring 2010 itself. I find that I'd take a self-aware furry coomer over an unironic autistic furry. /vp/'s greatest problem right now (barring Discord raiders, but that's on every major board) is that there's a sizable number of people who exclusively play Pokémon or are very casual fans. The more hardcore crowd is able to generate more meaningful and constructive discussion. While things are slowly improving over time (legitimate critiques have become more common compared to the old reactionary "I don't like design!" genwunner shit), it still has a way to go. But the quality of the overall website has greatly deteriorated in the past decade. Look no further than /a/, where generals for all manners of shonen including NARUTO permeate the board. /a/ used to be really good about self-moderation, but that was in the past, and the yearly growth of the website along with the general rise in shitposting and agendaposting has stopped that. You can sometimes see attempts by /v/ Discord raid groups at converting /a/ by starting with inflammatory Twitter posts, but luckily people report the threads (even though they've been shown to ban evade immediately and attempt again and again).
tl;dr 4chan is at least as shit as Reddit, but for different reasons
