They never finished the bridge and left the ghetto to rot and be infested with gangs while the affluent city flourished. The main characters have their own little gang and one of the main antagonists early on was one of their members who made it big in the main spectator sport which is dueling cards at max speed on bikes. If you lose you can die. The little gang has to fight their way to the tournament in the city and win that to connect both cities. The real bad guy is harvesting the energy created during bike duels to power the rich city and get powerful. The rich are living off the dreams and efforts of the poor. 5D's is a wild ride and it has a very sexy girl they had to censor. Definitely worth a watch and one of the heights of Yugioh.
