>>37820172That's what spin-offs are for and Pokemon gets a healthy amount and you know what? They don't sell all that well in comparison to the main game despite the different play styles. From a business perspective Gamefreak shouldn't look to games they can outperform or that aren't their competition to build the brand on.
Yokai Watch's watch toy that interacts with the game is a valid threat to Gamefreak, so they chose to evolve and compete with it by introducing the Mega and Z Bracelet toys. SM pulls a lot from Yokai Watch because YW is something that pushes them to change. Gamefreak's main audience is also kids and thus is cyclical. Changes in gameplay aren't required because the 8 year old playing SM potentially never touched RB and never will. YOU are bored with gameplay because you stayed with the brand but a majority of it's fanbase is young children who haven't played many of the games from the franchise and thus it's all still fresh to them.
