I guess the new typing was also primarily motivated by marketing potential, so they can advertise to little girls and trannies who still unironically subscribe to that kind of saccharine stuff (Sell lots of pink cute plushies and merch as per usual but now with an official typing to back it up). Pink used to be a noble color and even manly at times way way back then before the turn of the century, now its just some reductive low hanging fruit nonsense used by corporations every single goddamn fucking time to patronize those groups. Game Freak also really fucking gets lazy about the typing whenever it comes time to design new Fairy mons and always defaults to "pink/cutesy/pastry", as you say they rarely tap into the actual Fairy part of it, yknow the grimms brother fairytales and european folklore of all those assholish otherwordly creatures and entities. They DO occassionally dip into that territory (Grimmsnarl line, Klefki line debatedly, etc.) but its probably a select few designers that subscribe to that philosophy. A HUGE majority of the designs really are just pastry cake shit (Swirlix line, Alcremie line) and/or pink stuff. And they retroactively applied this typing to older mons like Jigglypuff and Clefairy, although Clefairy makes sense given the moon lore and the name itself, however Mismagius, a LITERAL FUCKING GHOST WITCH, isn't Ghost/Fairy, for fucks sake, but Azumarill is a Fairy instead because fuck you we need more merch.
Still no Fairy Flatwoods monster, still no Fairy gnome, still no actual fae Fairy (The butterfly winged kind like Dark Willow from Dota 2). I seriously honestly predict that Gen 9 will introduce a sugary crepe mon for a new Fairy next. That's how predictable these motherfuckers have gotten.
