Story:
okay i can't judge the story too much since i'm only one gym in, but shield is better so far. Less forced tutorial. You're allowed to explore. So that's one area where it's succeed. We also don't have to watch Leon's catching tutorial if we've already caught
something.At least i didn't.
Rival:
We have three in shield and two in alola if you count gladion. Since i haven't gotten that much interaction with marnie and bede since again. one gym in. But i feel like i got a good feel on hop. So i will be comparing hop to hua. They're both your friendly happy neighbor rival which is not something i hate. However. Hua and hop have very different feelings towards pokemon battling. Hua is just taking it easy and coasting and doesn't actually seem to care about winning battles. Hop.This is hop's
dream.To become the next champion just like his big brother. He even starts with two pokemon instead of just his starter. So i like hop more. I get that in alola the island challenge is seen as just a fun coming of age journey type thing but if my rival doesn't care why should i?
