>>45041973So by law, if a Pokemon cannot consent to anything it would be seen as abuse to marry a Pokemon. There are ways to force people to marry you, child marriage is a horrible thing and still happens. You could groom or manipulate a Pokemon into a romantic relationship with you and force them to marry you. Both have the potential and possibility to be incredibly cruel and abusive.
Example
>I hatch a baby Riolu from its egg, and it sees and views me as its father>I groom said Riolu to trust me and like me and view me as a 'friend' but in reality I'm manipulating them to want to have sex with me>The Pokemon evolves when it reaches a high enough friendship value>This grooming continues until one day, I act upon those instincts and get them to have sex with me or perform some sexual favor>This made them uncomfortable, but they've never had any experience like that, and its from their dear dad, so it has to be okay, their dad's always loved them... right?Basically people can be shitty no matter what, you can't just magically assume the worst for one and not assume the worst for the other. At its core the system of being able to capture and own your spouse and its species is massively MASSIVELY cruel and unethical. Relationships shouldn't be a thing when the possibility of abuse is naturally so high due to laws and pokeballs.
>>45041996So thats in the video games. Not the anime or manga series which has Pokemon leaving their trainers because they don't like them. Take a look at Ash's Greninja, back when it was a Froakie *it* left its prior trainers because they didn't like them. Pokemon are not your slaves, they are exploited by people absolutely, but they are not slaves who have to dance when you say dance or trapped with you unless you force them to be trapped with you (threat of death or something evil people do).
