I'm not actively taking commissions but when I still did, I was always sending my clients WIPs just to make sure they were happy with the progress & so they could requests changes before it was too far gone--I also wouldn't ask for payment until the final product was finished.
I'm really sorry to hear you haven't even recieved a sketch, anon. I'd suggest asking how the progress is coming along, but some artists (for whatever fucking reason) get assblasted if you politely ask for progress updates.
I sincerely hope you're not getting scammed.
