Possibly a way to introduce beginners to more complex type advantages (fighting/dark/psychic) or a new mechanic where you can travel without pokemon for whatever reason.
Obviously theyll never do this as those 3 pokemon are huge money makers every gen, but they could still make them even if you didn't get it in the beginning.
