Assuming Flint is now the second gym leader he could have a Ponyta, Chimchar, and Rapidash as his three Pokemon. You could be extra devious and give Chimchar “Grass Knot” to deal with the water Pokemon the player might have by that point.
Also give his Rapidash Flash Fire instead of Run Away, Run Away does nothing for him and Flash Fire will teach brand-new players (aka kids) to not hit a Pokemon with its same elemental type
