And I don't like having Pokemon of one region on my team anyway. It looks too forced, and doesn't make much sense from an in-character perspective. All Pokemon are new to the player character - so there's no reason to avoid them just because they exist in other regions too.
I tend to find 3-4 'new' Pokemon and the rest an assortment of old makes for the most aesthetic teams. Like this was my recent first-time X team that I was quite happy with.

Looks pretty crazy if you have all those 'mons already. Wouldn't mind having a based Duskull myself.

There's quite a lot to catch early, Magnemite and Riolu are OP as hell. Elekid/Magby are cool to see that early in a game. Lillipup is a based bro throughout.
I also happen to be Watchog's sole defender on /vp/, give him a shot if you like. I got a shiny one when I first played White 2 a little while back and he was a lot of fun.
